National Trade magazines recognizes PowerMill 300 machine.

Ingersoll Machine Tools new Powermill 300 achieved national recognition in the May/June issue of Forging Magazine and the July issue of Tooling and Production. The articles focus on Ingersoll’s 3-Meter Billet Mill, which is scheduled for production at Ellwood City Forge in New Castle, Pennsylvania, this month.

The machine will mill steel billets or ingots, which are used by primarily the automotive industry in the creation of body panels for cars and trucks. Central to the article was the satisfaction of Ellwood officials with the design, manufacture and successful test production runs of the most powerful steel-milling machine ever built.

Dr. Dennis Bray, Ingersoll’s Chief Technology officer, led Ingersoll’s development efforts to build a high horsepower machine that removes more metal in fewer passes than conventional mills. Bray said, "The best solution to our customer’s needs was to have fewer machines doing more work. We worked hard to achieve that goal and are proud that our customer is as pleased with the production results as we are with the way the mill operates. The 3M Billet Mill will outperform a conventional machine by a factor of 5:1, which justifies Ellwood’s investment with us."
