Fiber Placement has traditionally used a
rotating mandrel infront of a fiber lay-up machine. This approach has
several limitations and added costs due to:
- An expensive rotating mandrel
- A dedicated rotating unit
- Increased floor space
- Larger Autoclave capacity
Ingersoll has challenged this traditonal setup by successfully using a
simple and inexpensive female lay-up tool located on the floor.
The depositon head is designed with reduced size and enhanced dexterity
to fit in narrow cavities.
The fifth machine of this type is now being delivered after running the
qualification test with the following parameters:
- Lay-up speed: 40
m/min (1600 IPM)
- Cut speed: 30 m/min
(1200 IPM)
- Add speed: 30 m/min
(1200 IPM)
